I’ve been in the US for 8 years now and still whenever I take a shower, I get a vacation feeling. Weird right? I can tell you, it’s in the water.
Water in the New York City area has a major similarity with water of the European nations of the south. Like many Europeans, I often vacationed in the south. Water in Netherlands does not have that similarity. I only encountered it on vacations and that’s how it got ingrained with my brain to be associated with vacation. It’s so powerful that to this day, I still get that feeling. I guess you can’t undo decades of ingraining that easily.
The similarity? It’s chlorine and more specific the smell of chlorine in the water. It’s sure way to get me into the vacation feeling.
